Cidalia Luis-Akbar

Cidalia Luis-Akbar is the founder and president of American Hauling & Paving, Inc., a woman-owned consulting firm specializing in road construction and equipment rental in the Washington Metropolitan Area.  Along with her professional accomplishments, Cidalia is involved with various charitable organizations such as CARE International, the Aschiana Foundation, and UNIFEM.   She is currently on the boards of Children's Hospital, the Portuguese Heritage Scholarship Foundation and Innocents at Risk.   

 

Ms. Luis-Akbar was born in Versailles, France. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Maryland in College Park and her graduate work at the University of California in Santa Barbara, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brasil and the Universidade Clássica de Lisboa, Portugal. Among her academic achievements are a Fulbright-Hayes scholarship, California Regents Scholarships and a Calouste Gulbenkian Scholarship.
