Renee M. Schoenberg

Renee M. Schoenberg is a partner in the Chicago, Illinois office of DLA Piper US LLP. She has served as pro bono legal counsel to Ayenda Foundation since its inception.

 

Ms. Schoenberg's law practice focuses primarily on estate planning, closely-held business planning and charitable and other tax-exempt organizations, including working with donors of restricted and unrestricted charitable gifts, private foundations, public charities, donor-advised funds, supporting organizations and trade associations since 1979. Besides Ayenda Foundation, her pro bono representation of charitable organizations includes serving as outside legal counsel to a science education charity which works with inner-city youth in Chicago and working on corporate, tax and international grant matters for a client that promotes foodbanking around the world. She is the author of two articles for an American Corporate Counsel Association pro bono clinic held in Chicago in 2004, one on structuring not for profit corporations and the other an introduction to Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. She was also a featured speaker at Pfizer Inc.'s fall 2006 seminar for nonprofit organizations and their managers on the topic of revenue generation through corporate sponsorships and taxable subsidiaries.

 

Ms. Schoenberg received her B.A., with distinction, and departmental honors in economics, from Northwestern University in 1973 and her, J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1976.
